demora

/ de·mo·ra /  noun, Spanish

  1. 1.a delay; the time that passes before something takes effect.
  2. 2.an iPhone app that protects your screen-time rules with definition 1 instead of a password.

Here is the problem with every screen-time app: at 11pm, when you've hit your limit and want one more hour, the password standing between you and the feed is one you chose. So you type it.

Demora doesn't ask for a password. Any change you make to your own rules — raising a limit, removing a block, weakening anything — simply waits. An hour, a day, whatever you decided back when you were thinking clearly. The countdown runs in the background whether the app is open or not, and by the time it ends, the urge is usually gone. You can always change your rules. Just never in the moment.

The blocking itself is done by iOS through Apple's Screen Time framework, which also means your app choices and usage never leave your phone — they're invisible even to me.
